Membership Price Increase 2025 Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve compiled a list of answers to questions you might have around the changes to membership fees. If you don’t see what you need, please contact us.
When are the prices changing
The new pricing will take effect on 1st April 2025, coinciding with the start of the new tax year
I have a “price for life” email; shouldn’t my price stay the same?
We understand how this may feel disappointing. However, the “price for life” arrangement was made under the previous management and is no longer applicable. As the new management team, our priority is to ensure the sustainability and quality of our facilities. This requires aligning membership fees with the ongoing investments being made across our centres.
I haven’t used the centre in months and still paid; why are you increasing the price?
We sympathise with your situation. Memberships are designed to offer flexibility, and it’s the responsibility of members to pause or cancel if you aren’t using the facilities. That said, this price increase reflects the improvements and investments that have been made, and will continue to be made, for those who choose to use our services. Should you decide to continue, we’re confident you’ll notice the difference these investments are making.
I’ve been a loyal member for years. Why is my price increasing
We deeply value your loyalty and don’t take this decision lightly. This increase allows us to address rising costs and invest in your experience. From state-of-the-art equipment to improved facilities and increased salaries for our dedicated staff, every pound is reinvested to deliver a premium service. We hope you’ll continue to support us as we enhance your experience.
Why is it going up more than inflation
This increase reflects the significant investments being made across all our centres. While inflation does affect our costs, this adjustment goes beyond merely keeping up with inflation. Over the past year, we’ve completed detailed benchmarking to ensure our pricing remains competitive while reflecting the enhanced value we provide. These upgrades include new equipment, expanded gym spaces, and improved infrastructure, offering noticeable improvements to your experience. We are confident these enhancements represent exceptional value for your membership.
I didn’t get the email but heard prices are going up. How much will my membership be?
We apologise if you didn’t receive our communication. Please contact us to ensure your email preferences are updated, and we’ll gladly provide the details about your specific membership. Transparency is important to us, and we’re here to answer any questions you may have.
I refuse to pay more!
We understand that no one likes price increases. However, this adjustment is essential to cover the investment being made across our centres. These funds are being directly reinvested to improve your experience, including new equipment, enhanced facilities, and staff wage increases. We hope you’ll see the value in these changes and continue your membership with us.
Who can I speak to about this
We welcome your feedback and are happy to address your concerns. You can contact our team at Southwarkleisureinfo@southwark.gov.uk using “Membership fee query” as the subject line. We’ll ensure your queries are handled promptly. Your input is important to us as we work to improve our services.
What do I get for paying more?
Your membership fees directly contribute to significant enhancements, including new gyms, upgraded equipment, and refurbished studios. We’re also investing in behind-the-scenes improvements like boilers and plant rooms, ensuring reliable services for years to come. Additionally, we’re proud to have increased staff salaries, reflecting our commitment to those who make your experience enjoyable. What if I’ve already paid for an annual membership?
If you’ve paid for an annual membership, your pricing will remain unchanged until your renewal date. You can enjoy the benefits of our ongoing investments throughout the remainder of your term.
Is this increase happening at all centres?
Yes, this change applies across all our centres. The increase supports consistent upgrades and ensures all locations benefit from the planned improvements.
Will this happen regularly?
While we can’t predict future adjustments, we’ll always aim to minimise price changes. When increases are necessary, members will be notified in advance to ensure transparency and understanding.
Why are prices increasing by such a large amount?
We understand that a price increase of 38% or higher is significant. This adjustment reflects the rising operational costs, which include energy, staffing, and facility maintenance. Additionally, over the past few years, Southwark Council has invested heavily in our facilities, totalling £6 million, including:
1. £2.2 million in new gym equipment and refurbishments.
2. £750,000 in modernising studios and upgrading studio equipment.
These improvements aim to provide high-quality services and facilities to all users. Despite these increases, benchmarking with other providers ensures our prices remain competitive and align with projected standards for 2025.
Can I downgrade my membership if I can no longer afford my current plan
Yes, we offer flexible options for members who may find the new pricing challenging. For example:
i. If you currently have a membership with 14-day advance booking, you may choose a plan with fewer benefits at a lower cost.
ii. Please contact our customer service team to discuss options tailored to your needs.
Are there discounts available for people on low incomes or claiming benefits?
We remain dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality, and inclusive leisure facilities, with discounted memberships for:
· Over 60s, 16–19-year-olds, and full-time students
· Emergency service workers (NHS, police, fire service) and armed forces
· Universal Credit and Carer’s Allowance recipients
· Free Swim and Gym is available to Southwark Residents
What has Southwark Council done to support members?
Southwark Council takes pride in being a fair-paying local authority. The transition from Fusion to Everyone Active included significant price reductions for many users. Over the years, price increases have been limited, and improvements in our services and facilities have consistently added value to memberships. This ongoing investment highlights our commitment to delivering top-tier services for our community.
How do Southwark prices compare with other providers?
We have completed detailed benchmarking to ensure our prices remain competitive with similar facilities. Despite the increase, we remain aligned with the standards for 2025 pricing, ensuring good value for the quality of services and facilities provided.
What if I want to cancel my membership?
We’re sorry to hear you’re considering cancelling. Please contact our team to explore alternatives, such as downgrading or switching to a discounted membership. If you still wish to proceed, you can cancel with one month’s notice for monthly direct debits or at the end of your annual term
Why weren’t price increases spread out over time?
During the transition from Fusion to Everyone Active, prices were reduced for many users. To keep memberships affordable, we delayed implementing increases, which has made this adjustment larger. The rise now reflects the growing costs of providing high-quality services and maintaining upgraded facilities.
What are the next steps for members?
You’ll receive formal notification of the new pricing and options on or before 20th March. If you’d like to discuss your membership, contact your local centre or customer service team. We’re here to help you find the best option for your needs. Website / app users may notice this in their account prior to this as we update our systems.
Why are you removing the five-site and eight-site membership options?
We have made the decision to simplify our membership structure by aligning all memberships to provide access to all leisure centres. This means:
1. All members will now enjoy the full range of facilities and services across every centre.
2. This change ensures greater flexibility and convenience for members who may wish to use different centres depending on their location or preferred facilities.
We believe this approach provides better value for money and a more consistent experience for all members. If you have specific questions about how this affects your membership, please contact our customer service team.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support. This price adjustment enables us to sustain the high-quality services and facilities that our members deserve.
Can I buy an annual at this year’s price?
DD members must wait until their current membership expires before converting to an annual plan. Since the cutoff date has passed, they must wait until April, at which point they will be subject to the new membership price. Please note the expiration date and follow up to assist with the transition.
Duplicate memberships may be cancelled, and no refund given.
