Top Tips For Getting Started

Whatever your aim or goal we can help to get you there.  Here are our top tips for getting started if you’re new to the gym:

  • Set Small Goals: Start with something manageable like a 15-minute workout or a short swim, and build it from there.
  • Find what you love: Experiment with different activities – try yoga, weightlifting, swimming or a fun group class.
  • Make it Routine: Schedule your workout time like an appointment so it becomes part of your day.
  • Wear Comfortable Gear: Feeling comfortable and confident in your clothes can make a big difference when starting.
  • Don’t be Hard on Yourself: Progress takes time.  Celebrate showing up, even if it’s not perfect.

Free swim and gym membership plus free over 60’s classes

Southwark council is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of residents. As a resident you can enjoy free swim and gym membership on Fridays between 9am – 10pm, Saturdays 2pm – 5:30pm and Sundays 2pm – 9pm. Plus over 60’s can take part in any Silver session for free. Disabled residents can use all leisure centres, free of charge, seven days a week. Booking is necessary and you must meet all eligibility and proof of ID requirements.
