When will the new Canada Water Leisure Centre open?
The new Canada Water Leisure Centre is scheduled to open in Spring 2025.
I am a member at Seven Islands Leisure Centre. Will my membership automatically transfer to the new centre?
Yes, all active memberships will automatically transfer to the new Canada Water Leisure Centre.
What if I don’t want my Seven Islands membership to be transferred automatically to the new centre?
Closer to the time of transfer to the new centre, a communication will be sent out to current members of Seven Island Leisure Centre informing you of the transfer. This will include instruction on how to cancel your membership if you do not wish to transfer.
Will there be any changes to my membership fees?
Membership fees will be subject to changes in line with the Council’s annual review of fees and charges. These come into effect from 1 April 2025.
What new facilities will the Canada Water Leisure Centre have?
The new centre will feature a learner pool with a moveable floor, an 8-lane 25m pool, a 4-court sports hall, a higher capacity gym floor with 150 stations, and 3 group exercise studios (Spin, holistic & aerobics).
Will there be parking available at the new centre?
Unfortunately, there will not be car parking available, in line with the Council's vision of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030. However, there will be provisions for cycle parking.
Will the new centre have a steam room and sauna?
In keeping up with Southwark Council’s environmental sustainability goals, the new Canada Water Leisure Centre will not include a steam and sauna room to help minimise carbon footprint from the centre.
Is there a soft play area for children?
Unfortunately, there isn't a dedicated space for soft play in the new Canada Water Leisure Centre. We provide soft play facilities at Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre.
Will the opening hours change at the new leisure centre?
The opening hours for the new centre will be communicated closer to the opening date.
Will there be any new fitness programmes or classes offered?
Yes, the fitness and aquatics service leads will review existing programmes and consult with members to determine new offerings at the Canada Water Leisure Centre.
What will happen to my favourite classes and instructors?
Efforts will be made to retain popular classes and instructors. There will also be additional classes available at the new centre. Any changes will be communicated to members in advance.
Can I tour the new centre before it opens?
We plan to offer tours for members before the official opening. Details will be provided closer to the date.
Will there be childcare or crèche facilities at the new centre?
Unfortunately, there isn't a dedicated crèche facility at the new centre.
How can I stay updated on the progress of the new leisure centre?
Updates will be provided through our website, email newsletters, and member engagement sessions. Make sure you register for updates.
Will my Free Swim & Gym (FSG) Membership apply to the Canada Water Leisure Centre?
Yes – Any member with the Free Swim & Gym Membership will be able to access the new Canada Water Leisure Centre opens as per any arrangements applicable then.
Will there be employment opportunities at the new centre?
Yes, there will be employment opportunities at the new Canada Water Leisure Centre. We will be recruiting additional staff to manage the expanded range of programmes offered at the facility. These opportunities will be advertised on the Southwark Council website once they become available.
Will Canada Water Leisure Centre fit into the All Access Plus Membership category?
Membership categories are currently being reviewed and any changes will be communicated to members ahead of opening.
How will the new centre cater for the needs of disabled residents?
The centre will be fully accessible and compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant. Among other things the new centre will have:
- pool access platforms for anyone who may find it difficult to access the pool using a ladder or steps)
- a Changing Places changing facility with hoist.
- lifts to all floors
- induction hearing loops
