Following the transfer of the leisure facilities to Southwark Leisure in June 2023, we have been engaged in reviewing the challenges and finding solutions to improve the standard of service offered at Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre.
We are pleased to update customers on the progress we have made:
- Gym equipment repair and replacement by 30 October
We discovered that the main reason for the present condition of fitness equipment at Peckham Pulse was the presence of high humidity levels in the area escaping from the pool hall. The first task has been to fix the air handling plant and air conditioning system, which is now complete. The plan is to complete repairs to all equipment, which is not beyond economical repair by the end of October. We will also replace equipment, which is broken, with new state-of-the-art Technogym equipment by the end of October.
You will notice that the gym entrance has changed (turn left at the top of the stairs now rather than right). This is to prevent the air from the pool getting into the gym and eroding the equipment. New signs will replace the temporary ones by 23 October.
- Studio refurbishment this winter
The Group Exercise Studios will shortly benefit from redecoration and provision of new equipment. The Cycling Studio lighting will also benefit from an upgrade.
- Exciting gym refurbishment Spring 2024
A more significant project to refurbish the gym area is currently being planned for Spring 2024. This exciting development includes a newly designed gym with new training zones, new equipment, functional fitness space, purpose built weight racks and rigs, new flooring and improved lighting.
- Health & Wellbeing
We have introduced a new service to Peckham, providing a free, self-service health assessment kiosk. If you want to check your key health indicators, you can measure your blood pressure, heart rate, body fat, height, weight, body mass index and more in less than five minutes. You can use the kiosk at any time to check your progress to better health. If you need any help please ask a member of the team.
- Redecoration and refurbishment
We plan to continue a programme of redecoration to improve the appearance of all areas of the centre over the next month including:
- General Party/Training Room: We are planning to provide a new, more practical floor for the space, which will create a more enjoyable experience for users.
- Foyer Furniture: We are planning to introduce improved furniture to the foyer area and create a more relaxing space for customers to wait or meet.
- Remedial work:
Lifts: Work is about to start on a £70k project to reinstate the lifts. We anticipate having Lift 1 back in service on the 17 November and the Lift 2 by 1 December. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.
Pool Hoist: We are hoping to install a new platform lift in the near future, but in the meantime, we will have a replacement hoist fitted on Monday 16 October.
Sauna: The specialist sauna seating has been damaged beyond repair, when the automatic fire sprinkler system was accidently activated. We have ordered replacement seating and we are currently awaiting confirmation of a delivery date.
We hope all the completed work will demonstrate our commitment to making Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre a better place for visitors and users.
We anticipate minimal disruption as we carry out the improvements and we will keep you updated of the progress we are making.
Please let us know if you have any further concerns about the facilities provided at Peckham Pulse by emailing PeckhamInfo@southwark.gov.uk or speak to a member of our team.
